A Comparision of Christmas celebrations: Catalunya v's Britain.
Christmas Traditions are very different all over the world. In Britain everyone celebrates Chistmas on the 25 of December. There is no family meal on the 24 and no Cagatió.
For Christmas Lunch the British traditionally eat Roast Turkey and then Christmas Pudding with silver coins in it for good luck. THere in Catalunya we eat "escudella" on 25 of December.
Other traditions for Christmas are:
- The Nativity Scene. The British do not have caganer.
- Carol Singing. The traditional songs in the UK are the Twelve Days of Christmas, Rudolph...and others. There we recite a poem.
- Hanging a sock by the fiveplace for Father Christmas to fill with presents. In Britain he arrives down the chimney and in Catalunya he enters through the window.
- We have The Christmas Lottery. THe British do not.
- December the 25th (Saint Stephens) is commonly called Boxing Day in Britain (there was a tradition of Boxing fights on that day).
- Christmas is celebrated more in Britain than in Catalunya because the British do not celebrate kings on January 6th
